Germany's government recently approved contracts worth $3.15 billion for the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines from five companies until 2029, Xinhua news agency reported

These contracts grant long-term access to production capacities if the COVID-19 pandemic continues or a new pandemic emerges, confirmed Reuters News on March 16, 2022.

"We have learned the lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and the initial vaccine shortage," commented Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck.

"We are securing vaccine production and supply for the coming years."

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, about 196 million vaccine doses have been delivered in Germany.

The vaccine manufacturers include BioNTech, CureVac/GSK, Wacker/CordenPharma, Celonic, and IDT.

According to recent data, these COVID-19 vaccines may be needed sooner than 2029.

Local media in Germany reported on March 20, 2022, despite the lower and upper houses of the Federal Parliament approving the easing of curbs, German state leaders have criticized the move as happening too soon.

Germany reported 131,792 new SARS-CoV-2 virus infections, according to the Robert Koch Institute for infectious diseases.
