Orimune Vaccine Description
Orimune is a liquid oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) that is taken by mouth to help prevent polio infection.
Orimune contains live attenuated Sabin strain types 1,2, and 3.
Orimune Vaccine Indication
Orimune is indicated to prevent polio infection. Infection from the poliovirus can cause paralysis as well as muscle and nerve damage.
The oral poliovirus vaccine stimulates the immune system to produce anti-poliovirus antibodies against Sabin strains 1, 2, and 3.
The live virus persists in the gastrointestinal tract for 4-6 weeks, inducing both mucosal and serum anti-poliovirus antibodies capable of opsonization, neutralization, and complement activation.
Orimune Vaccine Dosage
This polio vaccine is for use by mouth only. The solution may be administered directly into the mouth or mixed with water, milk or adsorbed on bread, cake or a sugar cube.
