To win the fight against the deadly coronavirus disease, India indigenously developed or arranged nine (9) COVID-19 vaccines for use in-country, reported the Time of India on December 23, 2022.

While the Serum Institute of India's CoviShield™ vaccine was cleared in early 2021, other vaccines were later authorized.

In total, 220 crores (2 billion) of vaccines have been deployed during the pandemic.

As of December 2, 2022, the Covid Data Tracker reported that 12 vaccines had been approved in India. With 19 other vaccine candidates conducting clinical trials.

The impact of developing and deploying the vaccines has been very positive in India, as the recent WorldOmeter data indicated the number of daily new cases and related fatalities had decreased substantially in 2022.

To keep India safe during the next pandemic wave, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced on December 22, 2022, it implemented a comprehensive screening policy to detect people infected with coronavirus when arriving via airlines.
