The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) recently confirmed probable cases of acute hepatitis of unknown etiology in children across Europe.

As of May 10, 2022, approximately 105 cases have been identified in 13 EU/EEA countries, with Italy (35) and Spain (22) reporting the most cases.

The ECDC says since the United Kingdom initially published an alert on April 5, 2022, the total number of cases reported worldwide is approximately 450, including 11 related fatalities.

This is an ongoing situation, and the ECDC monitors this event through its epidemic intelligence activities.
