Research Square announced on July 19, 2021, it had withdrawn a non-peer-reviewed preprint study on July 14, 2021, 'due to an expression of concern communicated directly to our staff.'

The study, Efficacy, and Safety of Ivermectin for Treatment and prophylaxis of COVID-19 Pandemic, concerns were first raised by the British medical student Jack Lawrence, according to The Guardian.

Ivermectin is NOT an anti-viral drug for treating viruses. In addition, ivermectin preparations for animals are very different from those approved for humans.

The U.S. FDA has received reports of COVID-19 patients who have required medical support and been hospitalized after self-medicating with Ivermectin.

The FDA approves ivermectin tablets to treat people with intestinal strongyloidiasis and onchocerciasis, two conditions caused by parasitic worms. And, there are topical formulations for head lice and skin conditions like rosacea.

If you have a prescription for ivermectin for an FDA-approved use, take it exactly as prescribed, says the FDA. Never use medications intended for animals on yourself.

A preprint study is a preliminary version of a manuscript that has not completed the peer-review process at a journal. Research Square does not conduct peer review before posting preprints. The preprint posting should not be interpreted as an endorsement of its validity or suitability for dissemination as established information or for guiding clinical practice.
